MLB is a hybrid space, an unusual place to meet contemporary art curated by Maria Livia Brunelli, critic of art. It is located in a 15th century building in the heart of Ferrara, a charming town in Northern Italy near Bologna. The gallery is in the very centre of the town and nearby two Italian Renaissance landmarks - the Castello Estense and the Palazzo dei Diamanti.
MLB exhibitions are organized parallel to the exhibitions held in the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a renowned site for art exhibitions (just a few hundred meters from the gallery) in order to inspire and attract visitors.
All events are focused on leading artists and curators from Italy and abroad, with the aim to create a link among Italian and international venues. The program is possible as a result of a flexible board of international curators invited to evaluate site-specific projects. MLB home gallery is thus a space where visitors can approach art in an informal atmosphere, making acquaintance with the artists suggested by professionals, where artists can easily contact prospective collectors, and where curators can experiment with untraditional ways of exhibiting work.
The gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 3pm to 6pm (please check by phone at 331 4089660 or 346 7953757) and on Saturdays from 3pm to 7pm free guided tours are made to the current exhibition.
On Sundays, private visits are organized for small groups of collectors, journalists and museum directors; upon reservation, classes of every school order are welcome, as well as university courses interested in deepening the knowledge of the contemporary art system.
(from 1 July to 31 August and from 22 December to 5 January the gallery is open only by reservation)
